The Challenge of Cancer

The statistics are staggeringly frightening. India registered 14.6 lakh new cancer cases and 8.08 lakh deaths in 2022. Despite initiatives to curb incidence of cancer, new cases are projected to increase to 20.8 lakh by the year 2040, as per GLOBOCAN. Among men, cancers of lung, mouth, oesophagus, stomach, colon, rectum and prostrate are prevalent. Among women cancers of breast, uterus, ovary and lung are the most common. Cancers associated with tobacco use account for about 30 percent of all cancers in males and females.

The challenge of cancer has to be met by everyone, healthy persons and cancer patients alike.

Every healthy person can cut down the risk of cancer by making lifestyle and dietary changes. Some precautions are obvious, like avoiding smoking, giving up chewing tobacco as well as averting prolonged exposure to sunlight. Then there are not so well-known safeguards like

maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding obesity, staying physically active, limiting exposure to pollution, eating a healthy balanced meal with plenty of vegetables and fruits, giving up on processed foods as well as cutting down on red meat, grilled meat and barbequed meat.

About Us

CancerAssist.in is a one-stop assistance resource for cancer patients and their families as well as everyone who is concerned with cancer. While this resource has been created for the general public, our special focus is on underprivileged patients because they lack information, knowledge and financial means to face the menace of this dreadful disease.

However, identifying the organisations offering needed assistance services has been time- consuming and frustrating for patients and their family members, in the absence of a comprehensive database. To overcome this problem, CancerAssist platform has been set up and here we feature a trust-worthy and vetted network of organisations providing assistance in most of the cities of India, with whom patients can communicate directly. Patients can also approach us and in that case, we shall undertake necessary co-ordination.

India has highly-capable oncologists, top-notch medical facilities, affordable treatment schemes, large-hearted donors, service-oriented NGOs and an army of committed volunteers. It has been our endeavor to provide genuine information on assistance, services and benefits that can be availed by all concerned. The database has been compiled under the guidance of renowned oncologists from Mumbai.

In order to maintain our non-commercial nature, we have refrained from carrying any advertisements on the portal. We have no monetary transactions with NGOs or doners. Our sole aim is to connect people to causes that matter! This has prompted us to launch this portal as well as three other portals: DonateinKind.in covers in-kind donations, CancerScreening.in promotes screening and detection of cancer and CPRsavesLIFE.in is a campaign to save lives of Sudden Cardiac Arrest victims, through CPR and AED.
